dude OMG maxgames are some basterds, i mean seriosly trying to take your series from, thats just cold.

I hate big companies who prevent artists from being creative just so they can earn money. Fuck Max Games!

Do you still have the contract with the 1 year rule, then you can proove they lied, and BTW you just prooved Max Games as the worst gaming site ever.

Hey, but in that contract I owe them a multiplayer version.

That's harsh.

Mega harsh. I recommend seeking legal advice... It can be free here in the UK, not sure aboot Canada.

Mate, those games were awesome, really. I strongly suggest you take legal action. It sounds super fishy to me.

Keep us posted!

fucking ass holes but its nice you got some money i would prefer you work for NG but you need to pay the pills yo and if you are planning to make a similer game it cant be the same but it can be range guys and sword guys but why dont you make it better then it (if its not to much work) and then they might want you again but you say pay me more?

I will never ever work with Max Games again in my life. They are not good people.

Btw multiplayer yay that would rock!

It will never happen

Use the force dude

best comment ever

I'd say reskin the concept, add different and additional functionality, drop any functionality you weren't a fan of with the original, call it something similar but different, and send them a copy when you're done :)

You can have legal rights to the name of something, but they can't own a concept.

Make it better, make it more robust ... fans of the game will know who made it, and what the real sequel is, if not in name... then in spirit.

Worse comes to worse, I'll see if I can get you in touch with our lawyers, they are amazingly kind and helpful.

This is exactly what might happen

If you still have the contract, hire a lawyer and go to court!

I'd want to start it under a new name just to get out from under their shadow and show them that YOU are the one with the necessary talent regardless of what they think their "rights" are.

It sucks that a "brand" you CREATED and DEVELOPED has to be thrown away because some company who has no lasting power beyond their money is greedy. Them digging their heels in doesn't really help them in the long run (the brand dies either way), so it's a little silly for them to get all up-in-arms.

On the other hand, the money was important to you to get where you are, and they seemed to be reasonable about all the challenges you faced during the process (altering the contract terms midstream to accommodate your schedule) and it was really nice of them to give you a pretty huge bonus at the end.

It's unfortunate you didn't get a real contract revision upfront, but part of that responsibility rests on you, and now you're suffering the consequences of that.

Is there any way you can work them into the iphone deal and keep things smooth for you both?

No, I tried many suggestions, but there is no way to come up with a contract that doesn't actually give them the rights over all sequels of any other age of war games we would make. And that is out of the question. I just won't work with them anymore. The amount of money they gave is really small considered what other sponsors could have paid and I decided to stick with them to be fair. I guess I bet my faith on the wrong company.

Hmm, I don't understand why they'd make such a thing. I mean, if I had a company I would try to keep up a good relation between my company and the game developer so we could make other deals in the future and profit both from each other.

Even though they won't let you publish a sequel now, you still have your skills and brain. It would be awesome if you'd come up with a totally new idea/concept that would even top Age of War and show MaxGames what a great game developer they lost!

Anyway, I wish you good luck on your way and your future projects. Keep going! ;)

Make a new account? Pretend your someone else to block maxgames and make a sequel to it on that account but give it a slightly different name?
Maybe use a different account on some other website MaxGAYms doesn't know about and make the sequel there? Maxgames also calling you a dick is low. If anything they are the dicks. *agnry faic*

HA same thing happened to me- this is so funny cos we both met MaxGames at the same time. Remember that contest you won with the first Age of War? I came 3rd! lol

I made a game called Legend of JOHNNY and they bought it for 10k before it was done- Half now half later, same as you. The game ended up taking FOREVER and I totally hated it by the end, I got the same "ran out of memory" n had to work around it. This is so fun that someone else went through the exact same thing!
The game came out, I got payed, they were really nice, and I never even thought of makin a sequel cos the first one fuckin killed me.

I think the dude told me they sold the company to someone in London recently- are you definately talkin to the same guy through this whole ordeal?
Did you speak to them BEFORE you started work on this iPhone game or are you like halfway through it right now?
I don't think they own rights to a version on another platform unless they specifically say they do- cos I'm re-releasing a game I've made right now aswell.

You should totally just call it something else n make it a bit unique from the Flash games. I mean- Age of War got pretty popular but come on, it's still just a mega-simplified RTS.

I talked with the original dude from Max Games. They are selling, but its not done yet. The thing is, I kinda have a contract with Armor Games. They do not want to make any sequel because of the legal complications and all the other moral stuff and I understand. Making a new similar game seems the best way.

I did not start the development of the game because I know I had to make things clear before starting. So its good news there, I didn't lose money.

Louissi, do you know Belugerin?

She made maybe 10 to Age of War 2 EXTREMELY, FUCKING extremely similar games.

If Maxgames going to order Age of War 3 and get a contract with HER

(lol)

Age of War won't get over the 10,000 plays mark (lmao)

Oh and... Take a look at my profile banner =X

Belugerin games are heavily inspired by age of war but they are not good. She can do what she wants, copying someone is the best form of flattery. She will never be as good.

If explaining in the banner to be a damn Age of War 2 fan including a link to Maxgames is not illegal =X

I would suggest you link to the game on Armor Games website, we don't want to encourage assholes do we?

Of course I'm sorry Louissi to triple post...

Learn to read Fan comments. I know you spend a lot time for it, but you're doing it wrong. Fan comments are either "I can't wait", "Hey you suck", "omfg when release date" or constructive critism.

I told you some times to just make it a little game that contains many features but not such extreme things like 30+ uber detailed moving, attacking units with 10+ datas etc. One single person never can handle this ...

I know I know, I don't know anything.

I read fan comments, however they are not all worthy of an answer.

Damn :S that sucks. Why dont you talk to a lawyer? to get ure rights back. Dont you own the creative rights for the game? I say get a lawyer involved into this. Get your content back. I hope the best for you.

I don't have the time and money needed for this. I just believe they are a dying website and that users that care about developers that make games for them should stop playing on maxgames.com

Lawyers cost money, plus, they can't help you much in this situation, because not everything that is important is written down.

Good luck Louissi :(

just another reason to hate max games and the army of ages thing is a great idea

I've always heard good things about Max Games :(
I guess they know you've made a popular series, and they want to milk that cash cow for what it's worth. And really can you blame them? They stand to make a lot of money from future installments.
Still, the fact that they resorted to such juvenile messages like calling you a "dick" is pretty unprofessional.

I say your best bet is to just start new with a new series where you completely revamp it all and make it however YOU want. There are certain expectations for Age of War you might be confined to. A new game building on an old concept could really open up new doors.
Best of luck!!
